This system is widely used in Europe and offers an alternative to spreader plates or biscuit floors when using joists. Steel plates are used to form a base for the floor, underfloor pipes are clipped to the steel and a screed laid over the whole area. This is a screeded floor on joists with the all the advantages of a solid floor. This system will need to be approved by your architect and joist manufacturers. In most cases the joist can have a spacing of 600mm compared to a normal spacing of 400mm due to the structural nature of the Lewis system. The Lewis Deck system is typically around 52mm total depth above the top of the joists, but can be as low as 36mm including the underfloor heating.
